Revikumar, who was the head of the first ever department for Pharmacy Practice (Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy) in India at Government Medical College, Trivandrum. About the Author:

Prof. K.G. Revikumar (B.Sc, LLB, M.Pharm (Hospital Pharmacy), Ph.D. has over 35 years of teaching, research and practice experience in pharmacy practice.. He has taken postgraduate diplomas in disciplines like journalism, German language, business administration, Clinical Research and personnel management. He has to his credit many firsts in the field of hospital, community and clinical pharmacy in India. In 1992 he started the first department of Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy in India in Government set up and was the Chief and Head of it during 1992 – 2003. He was the head of College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Govt. Medical College, Calicut, Kerala (2003-2007) and Principal and Dean, Amrita School of Pharmacy, Amrita University (2007-2011). Currently he is the Principal of Nirmala College of Health Science, Chalakudy, Thrisur, Kerala.

In 1993 he introduced residency and training program in hospital and community pharmacy and Continuous Pharmacy Education (CPE) programs for pharmacists. In 1995 he started the first ever model community pharmacy services in a government hospital in India, started publication of Drug Information Bulletins and hospital pharmacy reports (1996) and published the first hospital formulary for a Govt. Medical College in the country in 1997. He started India’s first Patient Counselling Center in 1996 in Govt. Medical College, Trivandrum and made it a 24 hour service. He started M.Pharm Pharmacy Practice in Govt. Medical College Trivandrum (2000), Calicut Medical College (2007), Amrita University (2008) and PharmD and PharmD (PB) programs in Amrita School of Pharmacy (2010) and guided 15 PhD scholars. In recognition of his contributions in the field of hospital and clinical pharmacy he was awarded the ML Schroff memorial National Award in 2002.
